Forgotten scent of roses could be reawakened by scientists

So roses, along with the tomato, grape, and New England aster, have been abused beyond recognition by breeders in seaech of the perfect plastic plant. In the case of the rose, it has apparently lost much if its scent. We old-timers know that store-bought produce lost their flavor decades ago. And over-bred native plants lose vigor, ecological value, and suitability in the natural landscape.

This article suggests that we might be able to get both good looks AND value, through genetic engineering. Click here to read more about the rose. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/11716062/Forgotten-scent-of-roses-could-be-reawakened-by-scientists.html
