Species Spotlight – Saxifraga virginiensis

One of the first native plants to bloom in the spring, this common plant of steep slopes, barrens, and cliffs is easy to grow in any well-drained soil and is a perfect candidate for the rock garden.

Saxifraga virginiensis is a slow growing species that will reliably fill in any area given it.  Requires full sun so it is easily shaded out by taller plants, which is why we find it mostly on cliffs and barrens.
