ArcheWild OPLE Native Plants

ArcheWild is a native plant nursery specializing in the propagation of open-pollinated, local ecotype (OPLE) grasses, forbs, shrubs, and trees from the mid-Atlantic states, particularly Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Maryland.

NATIVE PLANTS GROWN FROM

Open Pollinated Seeds

To ensure durable and biodiverse plants for more successful restoration projects, many of the plants we grow are open-pollinated, meaning that only natural pollination processes have aided in the growth and genetic development of a given species, with no man-made alterations or modifications.

Open-pollinated plants will gain unique genetic characteristics on their own and will evolve to meet the constraints of their environment without intervention. The manipulated or constrained genes originating in gardens, plantations, or breeder programs result in products that have been shown to be less resilient and provide fewer of the intended ecological functions promised by native plants.

Landscape 200 Plugs

In addition to standard container sizes, our deep 200 plugs which are suitable for repotting and direct landscape planting.

Local Ecotypes

Our plants are genotyped and ecoregion specific. Accurate data is maintained in our GPS log and conforms to our Level IV EcoRegion map.

Seeds and the plants we grow from them are tracked in our SeedSource™ accession database, and our detailed plant labeling system ensures traceable genetics for even the most specialized restoration projects.

Identifying and accessioning each seed lot allows us to ensure that each plant’s local ecotype, or the genetically distinct geographical variety, is appropriately and precisely prescribed to each client, each site, and each intended outcome.
