Among the pictures below you will see a species that we call beach black cherry. This is a rare type of black cherry that only grow atop saltwater dunes on the east coast from New York to North Carolina. Maxes out at about 10-12′ tall, is loaded with flowers and fruit, and exhibits classic dunes characteristics.
We call this species Prunus serotina ssp. littorale, in honor of shore little bluestem. Or until someone comes up with a better name…
